Inspiration No. 005: Old World Powder

Next month I will celebrate my 50th birthday and with it, I have decided it is time to create my bucket list.  Although I have traveled a bit, there are a number of places that I want to go to experience the food, culture, and architecture.

This week’s image harkens back to an era when craftsmen were artists and buildings were built to last.  I have talked a lot about finding inspiration and this week I have created what I am calling Old World Powder.

The sink, vanity, and mirror add modern convenience to a powder room while making a strong statement from the past.

This week I choose two different Ralph Lauren wall coverings from opposite ends of the spectrum and paired each with different lighting fixtures.  My goal was to show how versatile these case goods are.

The first variation to my design has both a modern and tribal feel to it.  The muddled browns and metallic golds juxtaposed with the orange pairs nicely with the basket weave detail in the pendants.

The second variation of my design is in direct opposition to the first.  The wall covering features an Art Deco design and has a more formal feel to it.  Notice how the lines in the chandelier pick up the lines in the wallpaper.  The gilded gold finish adds decadence to the design.

Regardless of where you call home, let your surroundings rise up and Live in the Picture.
